If a couple rely on condoms their chance of getting pregnant in a year is 12%. The odds of getting a STD after a year of condom use would be substantially higher than that. Yes, condoms are less reliable than people think.

Bristol Palin and her b/f could've been using condoms and she could still get pregnant.

If a couple don't use any birth control method, the chance of getting pregnant in one year is 85%. So using condoms decreases the odds of pregnancy by about 1/7.
