So the question remains why factor it into the decision?

Because what an unfettered leader would do tells you a lot about their philosophy, character, etc.

Suppose McCain is elected and the Dems unusually lose their Congressional control in 2010. McCain then has a free rein to pass what he wants (mostly), appoint who he likes, etc.

In my critical risk assessment - which is very much operative, thank you very much - there is always a chance that what sounds like blather today could become reality tomorrow.

But since I am not undecided anyway, your more calibrated levels of risk assessment are less important for me. Our perspective on this race is so different that our approaches are really apples and oranges.
