The Dems could easily lose the majority or lose control.

Not in four years. You'd have to be a terrible worry wart to consider that a serious risk.

so the worry about the vp is greater in his case

Indeed, it is.

But not nearly so great as the risk that Obama and Congress will pile on so many future spending obligations and make us so dependent that we won't have the luxury of worrying about intelligent design. That's close to a sure thing as there is in politics.

If I were less of a patriot and a humanist, I would vote for Obama in a heartbeat.

I have no offspring to saddle with debt and I'll be gone or too ga-ga to know the difference by the time the shit hits the fan. If worse comes to worse, I can afford to set up retirement in another country.

It would be great to have a guy as President to whom I can listen without rolling my eyes over his oratory. I'm tired of having to wait for the text of the State of the Union because I can't bear to watch.

And it would be great to elect a black president so we can get some closure on the civil rights issue on which I cut my teeth so energetically back in the day.

And to have someone in charge towards whom I can feel a certain kinship. Obama is more like me than any president in my lifetime.

Yep, that would be the easy choice. I don't know why I care about legacy and posterity.
