Karen, I suspect people who call themselves libertarians in the southwest would be very upset if the government started charging people there the real cost of the water that they all depend on rather than giving it to them practically free.

Without the massive government investment in water infrastructure--for irrigation, for drinking water, for industrial and household use, and for hydroelectic power--the West as we know it would not exist. Not to mention, of course, the golf courses and the stunning landscapes that so many people seem to be so enamoured of.

And they will be screaming bloody murder if the glaciers in the Rockies completely melt, eliminating a primary source of storing and supplying water for the Colorado and other rivers that they depend on for sustenance, and the government does nothing.
