What concerns me the most about science education wrt to ID is that we would be teaching subsequent generations to be even more confused about what constitutes science and scientific methods. This confusion will not magically restrict itself to the interface of science and religion. It will spread confusion across any conflict between science and commerce as well. Our hopes, wishes, and economic desires don't change scientific facts, yet this is often what Think Tank researchers try to push. If our religious beliefs are allowed to alter what we teach as science to our kids, don't be surprised if those kids grow up to be voting adults who hold all sorts of nonsensical ideas about the utility of science in other fields.
