There are two key differences:

1. Olbermann is presented, not as a Rush or O'Reilly, but as a hard news commentator. And in fact, the position NBC was forced to back off of was that of having he and Matthews as hard news people on the campaign. These are not "entertainment" positions as are Rush and O'Reilly. At all.

2a. Seldom does O'Reilly show any bias. Seldom.

2b. Rush, while overtly biased (which he'll plainly state, but Olbermann won't), also presents well-reasoned thought and support for his positions. Olbermann does not.
