Some people do think that science and religion are incompatible which is a shame. I think quite the opposite and have read that there is a growing number of scientists that think the same way

Great Post, katelew. I agree especially with this last sentence. I don't believe their is any real conflict between Science and Religion.

Scientists love puzzles: and the Universe and everything in it is a big one! As a species we have a faculty of reason, and an insatiable hunger to know. I can't know the mind of God, but God must want us to use these faculties He gave us. I believe that true Scientists are doing God's work every bit as much as as any clergyman.

Maybe the universe is like a terrarium on Gods shelf - where He created Laws and matter and energy, and set it all in motion. The laws seem to be static and consistent - but more science is needed ;-) to know for sure. It seem the terrarium was made to yield its mysteries to science.

I see science as an effort to discover the rules of the terrarium. It is not about God directly. God is free to create other terrariums, obeying other laws , or to change the laws in any of them if it is His desire. So religious Scientists can work on discovering the laws of this terrarium, understanding that it only a part of a greater Reality.

It would be a shame if this crown jewel of human achievement were polluted by Creationism. Civilization may not be able to survive another Dark Age.
