I so agree with everything you say here.

Any congregation is a mixture of people in various stages of a spiritual journey. And like the rest of their life, they bring different backgrounds and education levels to that journey. Becoming a religious is a work in progress, and many even experience a waxing and waning of their personal faith, or level of certainty about the whole thing. I often find I reread a scripture and have a 'wow, I didn't see that before' or a 'so that's what that means.'

I guess one could say that it's an evolutionary process in itself as some ideas get thrown out and new perceptions are added in in the attempt to reach a rational and cohesive personal testimony.
