I've actually had no problem acclimating to altitude if I can spend a couple of days at Denver type altitude before proceeding up hunting. But that first day your huffing and puffing. We spent 3 days in Cripple Creek, CO which must be 7000 feet or so. On our second day the wife and brother and I took a walk to the west end of town. I was breathing a bit and brother from CO finally wanted to stop and rest and I said well gee Jay, I'm a breathing a little hard but your from here. He blamed it on the extra 40 lbs he was carrying:) At any rate he said we've gone about a mile and half and gained 800 feet in altitude so we have a right to breath a little hard.
