I agree it's not a perfect analogy.

But when people of faith share their experiences, remarkable similarities emerge....even to the physical response of the person at the time. You see this in historical accounts of conversion stories. (By conversion, I'm referring not to converting to Christianity but converting to a belief in the reality of an external God that communicates with man.)

Keep in mind, too, that throughout history there are accounts of people willing to die for their belief in God rather than capitulate and risk severing that personal connection.

It's things like this from which inferences as to the reality of God come. Then each person must put it to the test for his or her own self.
