Robert; I might be anomalous in that I can resolve any problem, but a secretary might not be that capable, which might result in a call to IS, and hours wasted.
First cost is oftem a bad determinant. For example there are large numbers of mercedes in Hong Kong, why?. The high first cots is offset by the 20-30 year lifetime of the machines. They frequently get 500,000 miles prior to engine work. US cars rust away and wear out in 150,000 miles.
I suspect the slower rate of change in Macs allowed for a more stable OS, in addition Mac users are less likely to be adding new apps, and be content to use them as an appliance than Wintel users.
