Since there are many people in the world ready to die for faith, I think the whole issue is not quite as mild as you paint it. There'd be a lot fewer conflicts in the world if people were more mild about their faith.

And considering in the US that 90% of the people claim to be religious, and Christians, I'm not sure why it matters that the 10% think the 90% are delusional. Who care? The religious have always had the upper hand and will continue to. The only thing that pisses the religious off (not the mild, of course, but the strong religious)- is when their ancient ability to oppress people who are not religious is taken away. It's not that not allowing prayer in schools is anti-religious- it simply takes away a PRO religious bias. It's not that taking "Under God" out of the pledge makes it less of a pledge, it simple makes it less a religious pledge. And so on.

People may indeed be as mild about religion as you say, but I see little evidence of it in politics, or in this country.
