it helps to read the actual line of questioning in the polls though. A few years ago there was a poll "do you believe in Angels" which was intended to evaluate creationism I believe. The problem is the term "Angels" sort of invokes this whimsy in some people and they will answer "yes" without really meaning that they ACTUALLY believe is ghost-like things with wings flying around. Same thing as if you ask a bunch of adults "do you believe in Santa Claus" a lot of people are going to say yes for all kinds of reasons, some think the question is a joke, some think that guy at Macy's qualifies for a yes, etc.
