Eric, I know it. I feel exactly the same way. Here we have some very serious problems and half the country doesn't even believe they are problems. I kid you not. I post on the McCain thread and the Politics of Energy thread and over there, most don't believe the financial crisis that our economy is undergoing is all that serious. Most believe that our economic malaise is "just all in our heads". In addition, most believe that human induced CO2 increases and the resulting climate change is the stuff of science fiction. And most do not see the connection between our oil addiction and our economic and national security issues.

I'm beginning to feel like I'm one of a handful of people who are awake and living in Bizarro world where nothing real is sinking in.

All you have to do is look at how close this election race has become. In no sane world would a McCain-Palin ticket win, especially after the dismal governance of the Republicans in the last 8 years. And I say this as a person who has been Republican his whole life! And yet, people are giving McCain-Palin the edge in the polls. Unbelievable.

This country is going downhill fast.

So what do you suggest from an investment portfolio perspective? I don't want to go down with this sinking ship. What do you advise?
