So this gives you the right to violate them?

I have never bought into that argument. Each individual is responsible for his or her own behavior. Bad behavior cannot be justified by pointing to somebody else's transgressions.

That's one of the fundamental problems in the Israel/Palestine conflict. Each side is only interested in pointing out the crimes of the other, and neither side will take responsibility for its own acts.
