And I did answer you. I answered you six ways to Sunday and ad nauseum. I answered with nuance in my terms and I answered in yours. Surely "OK, you said it" and "you spoke...not to abuse and neglect" are recognizable as "yes" and "no" answers to your two questions about whether you said (a) and (b).
After acceding to your wishes, I tried to turn the discussion to your answering of my questions. When you resisted, persisted in harping on my answering your questions yet again in one word each, of course I'd had enough. That's not cowardice. That's part exasperation, part cutting my losses.
You know, Kate, this has now gotten to the point where I'm now sitting here chuckling and relaxed. What a screwy exchange it's been. I'm glad you posted that last bit. I'm no longer exasperated, just bemused.
And to think you would do all this to avoid saying you made a mistake.
LOL. I figured you must have attenuated this discussion to avoid accepting that you had expressed a commonly held negative stereotype of a minority group.
FWIW, I had a similar transaction years ago on SI with me on your side of the discussion. I finally came to internalize that what I was saying was, indeed, wrongly offensive to its target segment of the population and, after having defended it for a long time, I changed my attitude and my heart. I'm better off for the experience.
