| First off, this is the Cisco-Off Topic thread, which means anything goes. But I usually post on other political threads for my political rantings. So I'll limit myself to just this one more rant.
So we've both been Republicans all our lives. That gives us common ground. I too believed that checks and balances precluded dramatic effects. But Bush has proved that wrong. He has destroyed this country in so many ways...to name a few:
 * increased the national debt from $5 trillion to $10 trillion
 * deficits have exploded and the dollar has lost a record amount of value against other currency...this is a measure our economic health, or lack thereof
 * we're in two wars and we still don't have Bin Laden, who started it all
 * we now have FISA, which means every word spoken on the Internet, cell phones, landlines or in any airport or government building is monitored and you can be publicly investigated with NO PROBABLE CAUSE...this is the greatest and most successful assault on our constitution in my lifetime
 * the rich-poor divide has increased dramatically under Bush and has continued to accelerate, while the middle class has shrunk to the smallest size in the history of the US...without a viable middle class, we have an effective oligarchy, just as in Russia where money controls all the levers of power and the government doesn't work for 99% of the people...in other words the American dream is dying
 * we're now even more addicted to oil, which means our economy is crippled by our dependence, we're funding both sides in the war on terror, and our nation is less secure even as our worst enemies like Venezuela, Russia, and the countries in the Middle East are getting richer

Bush as President with Republican in power in both Houses of Congress for his first 6 years in office have effectively set this country back decades.

I've voted Republican all my life, because I thought that was what was best for this country. But I will not vote Republican in November, because voting against Republicans is what is best for this country. People better wise up. This Republican Party is now the Neocon Party full of fringe right ideologues. This is not the party of Reagan or Bush Sr. I wish it was. Then I'd vote for them.
