This public adoration of Palin as if she is the Second Coming has me stumped. She has foibles and skeletons like all of us. For example, she claims to be tough on state expenses, but charges Alaska when staying at her own home.

Well sure, she's human, but she's also trying to deal with a media that is looking to crucify over something, anything, like being Assemblies of God. I don't blame her for not trying a let-it-all-hang-out approach. Whatever her expenses were, I bet they were less than half of Murkowski's, so I doubt there is any hay to be made there.

She is human, and she has doubtless made mistakes and will make more. But ironically, I think the media's palpably unfair treatment of her, not just nitpicky but dripping with condescension, will only wind up coating her with teflon.

Until reality hit, Obama was a rock star, too. For a few weeks

Obama was a rock star for most of a year. Palin only needs two months. Remember how the press kept going after Reagan, and how little they succeeded. Even Tom Friedman gets it in today's column. When a pol can connect with his voters on a visceral level, it's worth gold in the bank to him. Or her.
