Hey, I just checked DirecTV's website. My mistake, you don't need an Internet connection. Appears request made at their website is relayed to your DVR by satellite. Bottom line, goto website, log in, got to DVR Scheduler & click FAQ for all info you will need. Your request should work. DirecTV will send a confirming email of your request to the email address you have associated with your online account. Request is processed immediately. Only problem I ever had from my mobile was when I wanted to record a Lakers game within 5 minutes of its airing. Couldn't find the right channel in the program listing so I just opted for manual recording. Knew it was on ESPN, & wanted to record HD feed.
