I essentially agree with you - I also think NT is an excellent op system. I also agree that JAVA has a ways to go but I am not suggesting it as a replacement for an operating system = at least not yet. The idea is that if all op system and browser vendors support JAVA, and many apps are being written in JAVA, then it doesn't make any difference which op system or browser you buy. You're not locked into a platform. MSFT will continue to dominate for the forseeable future even if MSFT lives up to the obvious intent of the agreement. Most people would continue to buy Windows anyway because they are used to it.

It's clear that MSFT is trying to muddy the waters by making a Windows version of JAVA THAT DOESN'T RUN ON EVERYBODY ELSE'S JAVA IMPLEMENTATION BECAUSE MSFT HAS NOT IMPLEMENTED THE CORE REQUIREMENTS. Sun doesn't even care if there is a Windows Java SO LONG AS IT CONTINUES TO IMPLEMENT THE CORE JAVA REQUIREMENTS. This is what the dispute is all about.
