Thoughtful answer:

Generally speaking hunters do care and try their best to make one shot kills, but there's always exceptions to every group of people. If anything hunting teaches respect for the animals you harvest - if you go visit a few slaughter houses you might stop eating meat altogether - most people don't give a minutes thought to that burger or chicken sandwich, yet have plenty of time to pontificate on hunting.
