This is the problem with never recognizing your mistakes. You can never correct them.

I just listened to David Brancaccio on NOW on PBS. On cue, the Democrats are crying, oh! those Republicans are being so mean! oh! we are losing because we are too nice! oh! we have to stop being nice and hit harder!

If this is their diagnosis (again!) they will never learn. The Democrats are not nicer than the Republicans; if they cede any edge in attack ads to the Republicans it is only because they generally get theirs done for them for free by the MSM, while the Republicans always have to do their own.

Their attacks lack effectiveness because they honestly have no clue how they and their presidential candidates are perceived by the half the country. Not a clue. So naturally, they are completely sandbagged when the Republicans attack along what, to them, are OBVIOUS lines of weakness.

For instance, the Democrats have not figured out yet how the Republicans managed to turn John Kerry's "strength," his "heroic" Vietnam war service into a weakness. Really. That's why they are still convinced it was loathesome "Swiftboating" smears directed by Karl Rove. So they missed any opportunity to learn from that episode.

I tell you, the MSM cocoon is doing the Democrats no favors. I thought they were learning better in 1992 when the DLC took over the party and Clinton was nominated. But since then, they have only regressed. Now they are back to 1972.
