Palin is seen as an existential threat.

The word "extremist" does seem to be the new tag line for her.

I was listening to WABC out of NYC this morning and a caller labeled Palin is an "extremist." The host asked what he meant, what views in particular were extreme. The caller said that Palin did not favor abortion. The host noted that about 50% of the country does not favor abortion and it was hard to label a view held by half the country as "extreme." The caller then noted that she liked guns. The host again pointed out that her views on guns were common outside of the metro-NYC area. The caller just said, "Well, she's still an extremist!"
