Amazing statistic: Almost 10% of US residential mortgages are delinquent or in foreclosure.

From Hussman this week:

A record 9.16% of U.S. mortgages were in delinquency (6.41%) or foreclosure (2.75%) as of June 30.

Guess I have not been paying attention, but these numbers really surprised me. Didn't believe it so I had to check his source, a PR from the Mortgage Bankers Association

Maybe this is not as serious as it sounds as

The delinquency rate includes loans that are at least one payment past due.

Maybe most of these 'deliquencies' are just people who are a few days late sending in their payments?
