Hi Don,

>>And I am astounded that people such as IJ (who are not, I hope, part of the nutty base) would even consider going on another 4 years with someone who has supported 90% of the time the inept "leadership?" from the Oval Office and the clearly failed policies of the last 8 years and who also thinks so little of his country and its future that he would select such a lightweight for his VP candidate.

I think I am rational most of the time. :-)

Depending on what characterizes the "nutty base" - I may be one of them. But without you defining your terms I am unsure.

I don't like the war. I wish we were out of Iraq. But I like even less the thought that Iran and Amadenijad(sp) may acquire nukes. When Hitler was rising in popularity in Germany, many people thought that what he said was just talk and that he would not do what he said. Some are suggesting the same of Amadenijad. I cannot dismiss his threats. I do not want to wake up to find he has nuked Israel. Israel's survival is NOT NEGOTIABLE to me.

Obama may very well become our next President. I do not think he will protect Israel. I see his Black Liberation Theology*(BLT), as an antisemitic (and anti-Christian) world view that causes me to be suspicious of Obama. The antisemitism of his theology flows easily (though not necessarily) from the incorporation of "replacement theology"** into BLT. We ignore the underlying ideology of Obama at our own risk.

Many in Germany, prior to the rise of Hitler, accepted replacement theology. It was part of the thinking of German Lutherans and others as well. Martin Luther's views*** of Jews were unChristian and I submit that replacement theology facilitated his adopting those views.

I am arguing that what a person believes influences his behavior. I think it is fair to view Obama as imbibing BLT. That has implications which I find unacceptable.

This leaves me with McCain.

Respectfully,

ij

* "But when I read the Black Liberation Theology books of James H. Cone, I saw a subtly disguised, resentful kind of antisemitism which I had never encountered before."

"Yet, Cone embeds within his call to black liberation a diabolical resentment that Jews, not blacks, could lay claim to the Holocaust. When I first read his words, they caught in my throat and I could barely believe they were on the page before me."

"Such thinking exposes the underlying militancy of Replacement Theology, which seems to relish making Israel the heinous perpetrator, and Arabs and Palestinians the helpless victims."

From Martin Luther:
“We are at fault for not slaying them (the Jews)”
“If I had to baptize a Jew, I would take him to the bridge of the Elbe, hang a stone around his neck and push him over with the words "I baptize thee in the name of Abraham"”
