The announcement should be great news for Sun. It is no secret that Sun and MSFT were opposed as to the direction for development tools for Internet apps. This has to be a boost for JAVA.

Additionally, the question has to be asked if this announcement, along with others that will follow from future investigations, will significantly delay MSFT's shipment of products to support Bill Gate's Internet. This should also tend to boost SUNW.

Finally, the user community is getting government support. Sun, Netscape, Oracle, and their partners have been pushing for an "open" platform. This is a vote of confidence for that.

Netscape's stock is displaying that today. Sun will display this confidence shortly.

The business/user communities are quickly moving to a server-centric model with open standards (as displayed by the rapid growth of sites like this). Sun is well positioned with HW/SW to support that.
