why should Palin get a sympathy vote?

She shouldn't- but the author of that article is saying she will, and I agree.

People- and this seems very true of Americans in particular- love underdogs, hate bullies, stick up for the weak. And let's face it, there is still a remnant of 'don't pick on girls' mentality around. (except on SI- and most of the women here are very glad and more than hold their own)
All terrible reasons to vote for someone.

So she shouldn't get it.

That sympathy will not evidence itself quite so honestly, but be transformed into excuses and counteraccusations. We saw that with the Bush Doctrine. I was amazed to actually see a post that said it was sexist- that no male candidate would be asked that question!

Anyway, the point is not whether she should get it, but that the Dems need to be wary of that happening, and not get carried away with their attacks on Palin. Get back to McCain. There's something not quite right with him these days, imo.
