I'll go one better. Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae should have stayed public entities to begin with.
I do not think privatizing any public concerns, without safeguarding their well being, as in 'regulatory practices', is of benefit to our citizenry. any politician that preaches free market enterprise without the appropriate safeguards in place, is being dishonest.

besides, it is of my opinion that maybe we should 'ditch' the mortgage interest deduction because of this stupid mess we are in. we gamble the needs of shelter with a tax advantage. I think we must be the only country in the civilized world to do so. besides, it is the building industry & the required associated infrastructures that benefit from mortgage interest deductions, much more so than the home owner.
