Right, Pomp.... But, I believe that you are referring to figures that are stated in NOMINAL numbers --- they are not yet adjusted for the underlying level of monetary inflation that exists in the economy. When looking at what economists call the "real bational savings rate" (i.e.: 'inflation-adjusted') one sees that the REAL savings rate has been posting NEGATIVE NUMBERS recently.
