Well, I think that economists generally did learn that lesson, but I fear that the general public still has the impression that the stock market crash of '29 caused the Great Depression. And among a lot of the public right now, the general feeling about international trade is that it lowers the American worker's standard of living because we must now compete with low-wage countries in manufacturing. I do think that people are getting more educated about the real effects of trade as more people's jobs come to depend on it, but I think we are in general still pretty "naive" about it.
