I still have an occasional shudder at the thought of the hatches to the escape trunks being locked with the engineers still being below.

I went over to Europe in peacetime in 1953. Military Transport. Had KP out of NYC, and the messhall was vomit from one end to the other from seasickness. Will never forget it.

But no complaints. Had a wonderful 2 1/2 years in Europe.
