If you are interested in the intersection of truth, beauty, math & QM, have you read up on Garrett Lisi and his "An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything"? He is trying to produce a Grand Unified Theory (GUT) of physics based on the eigenvector solution for a particular formulation of the E8 Lie algebra. It should be viewed as very speculative, but quite interesting at this time. Various "greats" think he is on to something, others think he is out to lunch. If correct, it will at least IMO be a beautiful theory. I reproduce below one of his figures, showing a graphical representation of the systems roots and how they map to the standard model particles/fields.
