Syb - The problem I see with the use of the word "faith" is that, for a lot of religious people, what it effectively means is "the unquestioning acceptance of a set of beliefs." I realize that not all religious people think the same way, and that this doesn't apply to them all. But it does seem to be a prevalent view. I recall a conversation I had with a former colleague about religion. I said that since there were many religions that all claimed to be the "one, true religion," and since they couldn't all be that, it made little sense to pick any one of them. I said that it didn't seem to me that any faith had a more compelling claim than any other. He got huffy, and rather defensively said, "I guess you just stick with what you're raised with." Some people claim that they know "The Truth" because they have decided that things that are currently unknown can be explained by believing in what is essentially magic.
