And there’s a serious argument here. In the current Weekly Standard, Steven Hayward argues that the nation’s founders wanted uncertified citizens to hold the highest offices in the land. They did not believe in a separate class of professional executives. They wanted rough and rooted people like Palin.

Right. That's why they invented the electoral college, and had no direct election of Senators. Hayward seems to be making one of those "original intent" arguments, where the founders clearly intended what he wanted them to intend.

Minor point, though. It's good to see Brooks among the minority of conservatives not swept up in the Palin wave.
