I thought that's what you wanted and what I gave you. I will rephrase: I think Herbert did a poor job of analyzing McCain's proposals. It was just a knee-jerk reaction to the usual suspects, and he obviously wasn't interested in the cost factor. He clearly missed the point.

If you're referring to getting middle-men employers out of the health insurance biz, I don't think that's a slippery slope as Herbert claims. It's the direct objective. McCain wants to give people tax credits to buy their own insurance. The insurance/tax fiddling is just for transition for those who are hesitant to jump right in. Eliminating the employer role is a key mechanism for reducing health care costs. Loaded employer packages (or loaded state regulated packages) are, similarly, a key cost escalators. Unless you care about long term costs, you wouldn't like McCain's take.
