Actually, I have consistently maintained that the president has very little to do with the economy. Congress controls the purse strings. Period.

Clinton had nothing to do with the economy; Bush 41 had nothing to do with the economy. Reagan did, but only in the sense that he had the power to shove legislation down the throat of Congress which resulted in tax cuts that caused the economic expansion.

Other than that there is little a president can to to influence the economy.
