On that point, the CFTC rightly notes that the expansion of commodities indexing can be partially explained by investors seeking to "hedge against inflation."

Editorials like this make me profoundly sad. Then I get a really good laugh when an idiot like this writer refers once again to that trite and tired explanation of commodity buying as a 'hedge against inflation'!!

Why? Because in this cycle it was the buying of commodities through futures speculation THAT CREATED INFLATION. ROFL!!!!

Tim, this is just one more idiotic free market guy, distorting the picture by referring only to part of the picture.....trading on the CFTC. Lane's article went into trading on the ICE that evaded the CFTC's limits on speculation.

But, sweetie pie, if you want to cling to the notion that demand for oil doubled in 6 mos. and then demand for oil fell by 60% in 2 mos., be my guest.
