Possibly.

However, it is important to teach progamming concepts. The understanding of these concepts is paramount. The implimentation - C, C++, Java, or whatever - then becomes "mechanical".

Thus, the underlying principles are what I try to teach my son. Admittedly, starting off with Delphi 3 hides a lot of the inner details, but it gets across the basic principles.

And, generating Windows programs right from the start keeps the learning experience interesting - for a 9 year old.
