I missed that book. Either I never knew Elizabeth Drew wrote a book about McCain or forgot it.

I've always read her New Yorker columns but, inevitably, fell asleep halfway through. She would appear on the Lehrer show, whatever the title was then, and say sage things. And I would fall asleep. But she clearly knew her stuff.

For her to publicly diss McCain is as significant as Joe Klein, David Ignatius, and Richard Cohen doing so. Perhaps more so.

Big, big deal. The press is definitely no longer McCain's base. Well, the respectable press, to make that clear.
