time to buy the good financials. The only problem with that, we can't be sure they are good. U.S. Bancorp looks good, but we can't examine all of their loans, so we don't know how many pieces of paper they have guaranteed by cos. that no longer or barely exist.
China has crashed since the Olympics, but I'm not ready on that.
I still love biotech and would nibble away at HQH and HQL.
I love small cap tech, too, but haven't found a vehicle yet. The tech sector funds buy the big uglies and the small cap funds that know what they're doing in techland are closed to new investors.
Infrastructure still looks good to me. A worldwide depression, thank you Messrs. Bush, Putin and Bin Laden (whoops, almost forgot Mr. Greenspan, the Lex Luthor behind this disaster), would require public works programs. In this country, we could fix the roads and bridges and train tracks and our utility grids and all kind of stuff in a New Deal type of program. Despite the socialism of it all, the good private cos. would do well, also. Some closed end funds from McQuarie look decent in this regard. |
