scend Announces Simplified Network Access Software Solution for Corporate Customers with Heterogeneous Networks

New Intragy Network Access Software Solution Provides
a Unified Network Access Environment
for a Diverse End-User Population
Ascend Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASND) today announced a new client and connectivity software package for corporate customers which will make it easier to deploy network access in heterogeneous networks. Ascend's Intragy network access solution includes IntragyCentral, which provides multiprotocol remote access on the MAX and MAX TNT and IntragyAccess software for the desktop. IntragyAccess is the first suite of remote access software that has the same look-and-feel for every platform, from Windows and Windows NT to Macintosh OS. Deploying a unified network access solution for all desktop users substantially reduces both training and support overhead for MIS departments.
''Promoting remote access means making it easier to work with existing network resources,'' said Dave Saunders, Ascend product manager for enterprise solutions. ''Our goal was to provide a solution that addressed the real-world diversity of most corporations -- the requirement to provide all network users with access to non-IP resources as well as the more popular IP resources. Providing a suite of truly cross-platform access software puts the entire organization on equal footing, which means equal access to the resources they need to be productive.''
For companies that need to support traffic other than just TCP/IP, IntragyCentral provides multiprotocol routing for IPX and AppleTalk protocols, including ARA 1.0 and 2.0, as well as bridging for non-routed protocols such as SNA and LAT. Multiprotocol routing and bridging is important for MIS managers who support mobile workers, telecommuters and branch offices on a variety of platforms using network services deployed today. Using IntragyCentral on a MAX or MAX TNT WAN access switch, MIS managers can create one seamless network for all network users that enables them to access resources around the company as though they were attached to a single local area network.
MIS managers can also use Intragy to create a network-based modem pool, replacing standalone modems at the desktop with direct access to digital and analog modems on MAX WAN access switches. This solution combines support on the MAX or MAX TNT with a desktop client software portion from IntragyAccess known as DeskDial to give end-users higher-speed and more reliable dial-out capabilities, and gives the MIS organization greater control over remote access communications. |
