Maybe I am misreading the TJRodgers tea leaves. On the cover of the 1996 annual report is the following statement: "Our goal in 1996 is to take the first of two equal steps toward our 1997 $1 billion revenue goal." Well, we know, now, that that goal is an impossibility. In the second quarter 1997 earnings release is the following statement:"we are looking forward to again achieving record quarterly revenues late this year or early next year." In so far as the fourth quarter 1997 is concerned, the record revenue goal will not be achieved. As far as the first quarter of 1998 for record revenues, well, there is going to have to be a substantial pick-up in demand/prices to hit that goal. Also, there will have to be an upward improvement in profit margins, unlike the drop-off seen in the last quarter. The current outlook from TJR is that, as stated in the recent earnings report, "We look forward to ending fiscal year 1997 with another sequential improvement in both sales and earnings in the fourth quarter." From the optimistic statement on the cover of the 1996 annual report to the wimpee outlook just sited, it looks like we will be floundering for quite a while. I should have paid more attention to the insider sales in August and September and ignored TJR's ramblings.
