One thing is certain--when the "Most Annoying TV Commercial Awards" are presented, Ameritrade will have knocked Vita Nelson's DRIP newsletter commercial ("And you just might have *fun* doing it...") off the throne. Ameritrade's new commercial is so annoying that it would keep me from doing business with them--even if the commissions were free instead of $8.

Ok, so the old ladies saying they're going to Club Med is sort of cute, but everyone else is positively goofy. The worst is the schmuck who portrays himself as the "import auto" trader. If there was ever a "poster child" for someone who got beat up a lot as a kid, that is THE guy! To add insult to injury, he claims he bought BMW. Well folks, BMW is not an ADR--the only place you can buy it is on the Frankfurt Exchange. And I'm sure that you can't do Frankfurt Exchange trades for $8 --if you can do them through Ameritrade at all.

Finally, the ad is even more annoying when you consider how often they broadcast it. On CNBC, its on at least twice an hour. I'd think you'd have to do a ton of $8 trades to cover the advertising expense that Ameritrade must be experiencing right now. And to think I used to cringe when Vita Nelson's commercials came on--Ameritrade's commercials make me jump for the remote control.
