This week, McCain had his 3am moment. We all can see how he handled it - he failed miserably. He was wrong, confused, out-of-touch, and whiny.
He said the economy was strong, as the biggest crisis since the Great Depression unfolded. He spun his miscue into crap about how the 'fundamentals of the economy' were the people, when everyone knows what fundamentals are. He criticized the AIG bailout, failing to understand the ramifications of its potential collapse. He called for a commission to study the problem, possibly the same commission Nero called while he fiddled. He ended the week in denial about the roots of the problem, flipflopped on his decades old stance on regulation, and finally called for the firing of the head of the SEC - a man who has done a decent job in an impossible position - before he called for the resignation of the head of the...FEC.
And in the end, he tried to lay the entire blame for this mess at Obama's feet. What gall.
John McCain is Herbert Hoover.
By contrast, Obama was sharp, calm, and hit all the right notes. He passed his 3am test with flying colors.
Watch next week while the McCain campaign frantically tries to turn this race back into a bunch of meaningless spats about lipstick, supposed sexism, and elitism. They know that if the race is about issues and how the candidates will handle those issues, the Republicans lose. |
