If you mean troubled as in being watched by the FDIC, you don't find out. That data is not published. If you're knowledge enough to understand balance sheets, and the bank is small, you might be able to make an informed guess. For a large bank, you can pretty much forget about knowing anything the market doesn't already know - so "google" the bank specifically.

Make sure all your accounts are within FDIC limits.
