But the current account deficit expanded post 2003 as Greenspan was able to lure capital back into risk assets by making the problem bigger.

I would argue that the current unwind began in early 2006 when foreigners began questioning dollar holdings.

Note the current account moved from 7 to 5% of GDP from then to now. Scary to think what the next 5% will look like. I'n not being revolutionary by saying I don't think we get another bubble to save us this time.
