What's great about the C6 as an upgrade part is that is is very simple, does not require a mating connector board or a fan assembly, and it will upgrade even more recent non-MMX Pentium class systems to Pentium MMX class for a very low price. users can upgrade their systems with much less hassle than compared to a motherboard upgrade - they don't have to mess with removal of their graphics cards, memory, modems, etc.

It's often questioned "whats in it for the CompUSAs of the world?, How will they make any money selling cheap upgrades?" The answer is software. Most large reatailers do little better than break even on hardware sales but make higher margins on software, service, peripherals, and accessories. The market for upgrades is huge. Think about all of those owners of 1-3 year old Pentium systems who a few months ago thought that their $2,000 PC investment had boughten a "state of the art" system? Now Intel tells tehm that they aren't cool and with it if they don't have the new Pentiums with MMX capabilities. This Christmas many new software titles, more games than anyting else, will come out that are MMX "enabled". The C6 offers them a way to move up to a higher power Pentium MMX system for a price that is in the "sweet spot" of consumer budgets and acceptance. This should be a winner. Getting Evergreen on board to sell the C6 is a nice win because it will encourage others to offer the C6 as well. I don't see how the upgraders can resist.
