Not at all. I responded by suggesting that whatever faults Hamilton may have had, the good he did for the country was measurably more than any enrichment of his cronies. Plus, I have never read that what he did was designed to enrich his cronies. As you can no doubt see, paying off the debts raised the country's credit rating, so to speak, at a time when it had none. Compare and contrast the present crew to the Founding Fathers. We have Paulson, the head of GS who for years enriched himself mightily from dealing with the same things he is trying to save us from! The irony would be rich were it not so painful. Hamilton gave us a financial system that sent the US on its way to becoming a great power. Paulson and his ilk have done the exact opposite, in both their private and public capacities. If anything, they have undertaken a dismantling of his edifice. Some got rich from dealing with Continentals? I doubt that Hamilton gave it much thought. He was truly the epitome of a Big Picture kind of thinker, a true patriot. If Paulson were one, he would have stopped GS in its tracks when the securitization schemes became sizable. That's why I 'don't know and don't care' about Hamilton's alleged sins but you are free to snark away in whatever way pleases you.
