Yes, if Merkley seizes upon this issue to impale Smith, Smith will be forced to oppose it. I'm SO glad this is coming up right at election time. Maybe we have a fighting chance after all.

Don't have a second today, but I'll call Merkley tomorrow, and probably email again. I think I'm also going to request that he meet with me about it. He got a contribution from us, and I'll gladly give him more if he can apply enough pressure to swing Smith's vote to "NAY".

I'm not going down without a fight on this one.
