I did mean to imply that the US economy doesn't matter any more, but stand by my statement that it matters less and less all the time.

If I recall correctly, only 6% of China's economy is directed at producing imports to the US these days, and that proportion is dropping steadily.

Particularly in metals and mining, the circuits of capital decreasingly move through the US, as China and India and Brazil and Russia deal directly with the international producers.
